Title: Gamma convergence of frame-valued maps
Abstract: Frame fields are locally-defined configurations on S2 that are invariant with respect to a rotation group (say the cubic or tetrahedral group), and they are finding wide-spread use in mesh generation, computer graphics, and materials science among many applications.

In this talk I will discuss novel methods for generating these fields using higher order tensors and a Ginzburg-Landau relaxation for specific nonlinear penalty functions. In particular the relaxation procedure reliably generates frame fields on arbitrary Lipschitz domains, except on co-dimension 2 sets. Beyond motivating the problem, some Gamma convergence results for the associated energy will be presented.
