Title: Hybrid methods for the solution of the Boltzmann equation
Abstract: In the present work, we are concerned with the development of hybrid methods for the efficient solution of the Boltzmann equation, with a particular focus on reacting multi-species flows in the rarefied and semi-rarefied regimes. To this end, we develop 1) coupling techniques for various numerical approaches, such as stochastic semi-Lagrangian and Lagrangian schemes, as well as moment methods and (semi-)Lagrangian schemes 2) physical process models and numerical methods that ensure consistency of the model coupling. The developed methods are applied to the solution of several model rarefied gas dynamics problems and analysis of their computational cost and numerical errors is carried out.
